Daniel had plenty of wonderful qualities. He was charming, confident, funny, and the kind of person who could make a room come alive. At parties, people naturally gathered around him. He loved telling stories, pulling harmless pranks, and making his friends laugh.
In the beginning, I found that energy irresistible.
He could turn an ordinary evening into an adventure. He remembered small details about my favorite restaurants and sometimes surprised me with flowers after a difficult week. When I was sick, he brought me soup and stayed beside me until I felt better.
I thought his humor was simply part of his personality.
Occasionally, however, his jokes crossed a line.
He would tease me about something personal in front of his friends, then tell me I was being too sensitive if I asked him to stop. If I became upset, he would grin and say, “Come on, you know I didn’t mean anything by it.”
