Hidden beneath dark sunglasses and a casual hat, the retired actor was a far cry from the sharp-suited character millions watched dominate primetime television for years.
With longer hair, relaxed clothes and none of the polished styling that defined his screen image, the star could easily have passed unnoticed by longtime fans.
The mystery man is David Caruso, the 70-year-old actor best known for playing Lieutenant Horatio Caine on CSI: Miami, one of the defining crime dramas of the 2000s.
Caruso became inseparable from the role thanks to Caine’s calm intensity, razor-sharp one-liners and trademark sunglasses. He led CSI: Miami throughout its 10-season run from 2002 to 2012, appearing as the character across the wider CSI franchise as well.
His career, however, stretched well beyond Miami. Before becoming Horatio Caine, Caruso drew major attention as Detective John Kelly on NYPD Blue, a performance that earned him a Golden Globe. He also appeared in films including First Blood, An Officer and a Gentleman, Twins, King of New York and Proof of Life.
