For the first time in weeks, I felt that perhaps my worries had been unnecessary.
Maybe the previous women simply hadn’t been right for him.
Maybe Rachel’s date would help him regain his confidence.
I went to bed that night feeling hopeful.
Then morning arrived.
And Rachel disappeared.
The Seventh Woman Vanished
I sent Rachel a message early that morning.
I expected her to reply with a joke about my father’s excellent conversation skills or perhaps complain that I had turned her into an unwilling participant in my family’s personal drama.
Instead, my message went unanswered.
At first, I assumed she was sleeping.
By late morning, I called her.
The call went straight to voicemail.
I tried again an hour later.
Nothing.
This was unlike Rachel. Even when she was busy, she usually sent a quick message explaining that she would call me later.
By the afternoon, I was becoming genuinely concerned.
