A claim circulating online says that guava leaves can make cataracts disappear, eliminate bloodshot eyes, and restore sharp vision within only three minutes. The image accompanying the claim shows a dramatic “before and after” transformation, encouraging people to comment “EYES” for a supposed recipe.
Guava leaves are a traditional ingredient in many cultures and contain various plant compounds, but there is no reliable evidence that drinking guava-leaf tea can remove an established cataract or restore cloudy vision within minutes. More importantly, guava leaves should never be placed directly into the eyes as a homemade treatment.
A cataract develops when the normally transparent lens inside the eye becomes cloudy. This can gradually cause blurry vision, faded colors, difficulty seeing at night, glare around headlights, and halos around lights. Because the problem occurs inside the lens, simply washing the surface of the eye cannot remove the cataract.
Guava fruit itself can be a nutritious addition to a balanced diet. It contains vitamin C, fiber, and other nutrients that support general health. Guava leaves also contain naturally occurring plant compounds, and guava-leaf tea may be consumed as a traditional beverage. However, that is very different from claiming that it is an eye treatment.
