Call emergency services right away or get to a hospital as fast as possible. Antivenom is the only effective treatment for serious snakebites, and delays can be dangerous.
Remove tight items like rings, watches, or clothing before swelling begins. Then gently clean the wound and cover it with a loose, clean bandage.
Keep the bitten area still. If possible, use a splint or support to limit movement. The goal is to slow the spread of venom until medical help arrives.
Just as important is knowing what NOT to do. Never cut the wound or try to suck out the venom. These methods are ineffective and can make things worse.
Avoid using a tourniquet, ice, alcohol, or caffeine. These can increase tissue damage or interfere with proper treatment.
Finally, don’t wait for symptoms to appear. Even if the bite seems mild, every snakebite should be treated as a medical emergency. Quick, correct action can save a life.
