A snakebite can be frightening, but what you do in the first few minutes matters more than anything else. Panic and wrong actions often cause more harm than the bite itself.
First, move away from the snake immediately. Do not try to catch, kill, or identify it up close. Your safety comes first, and many second bites happen when people take risks.
Stay calm and keep as still as possible. Movement can spread venom faster through the body. Sit or lie down and try to keep the affected limb at about heart level.
