My sister kept walking around my husband wearing only a towel and called it a “test”—then one day, he did something that made her turn bright red. When my younger sister Kayla called me sobbing after her boyfriend of six years kicked her out, I didn’t hesitate. She had two suitcases, under $300, and nowhere to go.

“It means you need to find somewhere else to stay.”

Her expression changed instantly.

“You’re kicking me out?”

“I gave you a place to stay when you had nowhere else to go.”

“I know!”

“I helped you.”

“I know!”

“And I asked you to respect one boundary.”

She looked toward Andrew.

Then back at me.

“You’re really doing this because of a towel?”

I shook my head.

“No.”

My voice was surprisingly calm.

“I’m doing this because you knew it made me uncomfortable, and you deliberately continued.”

Silence filled the room.

“You weren’t making a mistake,” I continued.

“You were making a choice.”

That seemed to affect her more than anything Andrew had said.

## The Truth Finally Came Out

Kayla stood there silently.

Then she looked down.

“I just wanted to know.”

“Know what?” I asked.

She hesitated.

“Whether he would react.”

Andrew sighed.

“He didn’t.”

She looked embarrassed.

“I know.”

“Then why keep doing it?”

She didn’t answer immediately.

Finally, she admitted something I hadn’t expected.

After her breakup, she had started questioning everything.

Her relationship.

Her appearance.

Her ability to trust people.

She had spent six years with someone who had suddenly told her the relationship was over.

She felt rejected.

Embarrassed.

Unwanted.

And somewhere in her mind, she had decided that testing Andrew would tell her something about herself.
