She was lying on the bed scrolling through her phone.
“Can we talk?”
She sighed.
“About what?”
“You know what.”
She rolled her eyes.
“If this is about the towel again…”
“It is.”
She sat up.
“I already told you I’d be more careful.”
“You haven’t been.”
She stared at me.
Then she smiled.
Not an apologetic smile.
A challenging one.
“Why are you so insecure?”
That word hit me harder than I expected.
“Insecure?”
“Yes.”
I took a breath.
“This isn’t about insecurity. It’s about respect.”
“Respect?”
“Yes. You’re staying in our home. I’m asking you to respect one simple boundary.”
She laughed.
“You’re acting like I’m trying to steal your husband.”
“I didn’t say that.”
“You don’t have to.”
She crossed her arms.
“Honestly, maybe you should be thanking me.”
“For what?”
Her smile widened.
“For testing him.”
I stared at her.
“A test?”
“Exactly.”
She seemed almost proud of herself.
“If Andrew can be tempted just because another woman walks around in a towel, wouldn’t you rather know?”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
