Then she walked straight into the kitchen.
Andrew was sitting at the table drinking coffee.
Kayla opened the refrigerator.
She started looking through it as if nothing was unusual.
I glanced at Andrew.
He looked away.
That should have been the first warning.
But I told myself I was overthinking it.
## The Second Time
The next morning, it happened again.
This time, Andrew was making coffee.
Kayla walked into the kitchen wearing another towel.
She didn’t seem embarrassed.
She didn’t apologize.
She didn’t immediately return upstairs.
Instead, she stood at the counter and started talking to Andrew.
“So, what time are you leaving today?”
Andrew looked uncomfortable.
“Probably around nine.”
“Oh.”
She smiled.
“Maybe you could help me later with my résumé.”
He nodded politely.
“Sure. Send it to your sister.”
Kayla laughed.
“You’re always so formal.”
I was standing in the doorway.
She saw me.
And smiled.
That was when I realized this wasn’t accidental.
Later that morning, I pulled her aside.
“Kayla?”
“Yeah?”
“Could you please put on a robe or clothes before coming downstairs?”
She frowned.
“Why?”
