Neither of us imagined that within a week, the biggest problem in our home wouldn’t be money, employment, or Kayla’s breakup.
It would be a towel.
And a boundary my sister seemed determined to cross.
## The First Week Was Fine
The first few days were completely normal.
Kayla stayed in the spare bedroom.
She helped with dinner.
She thanked me constantly.
She talked about updating her résumé and finding an apartment.
She and Andrew even seemed to get along well.
There was nothing suspicious about that.
Andrew treated her exactly as he treated any family member.
He was polite.
Helpful.
But never overly familiar.
I appreciated that.
I trusted him.
And I trusted my sister.
Then one morning, something strange happened.
I was making breakfast when Kayla came downstairs after showering.
She was wearing only a towel.
At first, I barely noticed.
People walk around their homes differently when they’re staying somewhere temporarily.
Maybe she’d forgotten something.
Maybe she was going back upstairs.
I didn’t think much of it.
