My mother-in-law shoved me into the deep pool, shrieking, “Her fake pregnancy is over!” Unable to swim, I sank into the dark abyss. Waking up in the hospital, the doctor said, “The baby is safe, but your husband filed for divorce an hour ago.”

“Your husband filed for divorce approximately one hour ago.”

I stared at him.

For several seconds, I couldn’t process the words.

“Divorce?”

The doctor nodded.

Before I could ask another question, the hospital door opened.

Ethan walked in.

But he wasn’t alone.

My sister, Linda, was holding his hand.

I stopped breathing.

My entire body went cold.

Linda looked at me.

Ethan looked at the floor.

Neither of them said anything.

Finally, I whispered,

“Why?”

Linda’s eyes filled with tears.

Ethan tightened his grip around her hand.

And suddenly, the question that had been haunting me for months escaped my lips.

“Why did you know… and never tell me?”

The room fell completely silent.

Ethan lowered his head.

His hands were clenched so tightly that his knuckles had turned white.

“I was waiting for the right moment.”

I let out a quiet laugh.

There was no happiness in it.

“The right moment?”

My voice trembled.

“While your mother kept accusing me of faking my pregnancy… you said nothing?”

Ethan closed his eyes.

“I never thought things would go this far.”

“Not this far?”

I stared at him.

“You watched your mother humiliate me in front of your entire family.”

He remained silent.

“You watched her accuse me of pretending to be pregnant for attention.”

Still nothing.

“You saw the medical results before I did.”

His head slowly lifted.

I swallowed.

“You knew I was carrying twins.”

Linda looked away.

My heart cracked.

“You knew?”

Ethan finally whispered,

“Yes.”

I stared at him.

Twins.

For months, I had believed I was fighting this battle alone because nobody believed me.
